Hi All,
Two days ago my SONY VAIO K215B just suddenly started making this crackling, distorted noise - sounds a bit like when a key has been pressed down for too long... Anyway, as annoying as it was I muted the volume - it suddenly went away. Unpressed the mute and still there. No other sounds can be heard at all.
I followed the online help - diabled the sound card and then re-installed it - did not work.
I then followed teh next advice - to restart from factory settings- so i saved all my work and rebooted...
Still the noise is there.
I don't know what to do...
Anyone else had this?
My laptop is only 6 months old! Also - as it is within the warrenty, how do yuo send it back to Sony and do you have to pay for anything? How long does it take for them to send it back?
Hi Caroline,
Have you checked none of the keys are stuck down? If you do see one stuck down use your nail to lift it. If the sound goes away you're best getting some compressed air and spraying the keyboard.
If it doesn't, then you'll need to contact VAIO Link. They will contact DHL and pick up your K series notebook, it takes around 10 working days and as you're under warranty you won't pay a penny (or a cent if you're in Europe lol).
HTH
I'd give Sony a call as it sounds more of a hardware problem than software.
As the machine is under warranty you shouldn't have to pay anything. Sony will pick it up and return it (usually) within a week or two.
You can get the phone number from Vaio-Link
Hi Caroline
One last thing to try, as my sound quality improved after I did it, is download the latest sound drivers from here.
Go down to Audio and you will see the download. In the information it says:
"What does this driver update fix?
A noise that occurs when playing back an 8 bit recording"
I hope this sorts out your problem.
I dowlonaded that site and it still is making the noise.
The noise begins as soon as the computer gets to the desktop on start-up. It's annoying me now!
E-Support still haven't got back to me - I wrote to tehm on Saturday!!! How long does it take them usually?
48hrs-72hrs
