Connect to TV and record... what do I need?

Hey

I read in the book that came with my notebook that I can connect it to my TV and record the programme using some kind of software on my notebook. In the book it also pointed out what I would need to connect it to the tv (some kind of wires etc?)

But... I've lost the book so forgotton what I would need. However I remember it did say they sell them in the sony style shop.

Any ideas what I would actually need/any links to where I could buy them from and what price range I would be looking in?

Thanks,
Fid

Well, Fid.

Depending on your machine its possible to record TV programmes.
For this you need a TV tuner card wich might be built into your laptop though not many laptops have TV tuner cards built in.
A TV tuner card generally comes with all the needed software already included so look for a disc with the right software amongst the ones that came with your computer.

Far more likely however is that you've mistaken the idea of recieving TV signals with sending them. Most laptops can connect to a TV and use them as an external screen for giving presentations. This does not require external software as far as I know.

Thanks for your replies.

Well, I have the K series (PCG-K315B) and as it said on the website were I got the notebook from and in the actual book itself, it said you could plug something into the tv from the notebook (so some kind of link - av link or something - though I could have got that entirely wrong) so that it shows up on your notebook (while at the same time on the TV) which then enables you to record the program and save it onto the hard drive.

I think its some lead that goes from the notebook into the tv (I also think the bit that goes into the TV has 3 ends - if you know what I mean!)

Thanks

The K series doesn't have Gigapocket or Network Media Reciever

Hmmm, weird. It said on the website that gigapocket was included to record TV programmes.

Hi

You can use a cable such as this ( http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=33039&TabID=1&source=15&WorldID=2&doy=18m2 ) to play a DVD on your K series and watch it on TV, but I dont know of a way to record TV onto the laptop.

Gents,

I've just spotted this exchange of notes which I also have an interest in. I too would like to be able to play DVD on my S2XP and view it on the TV. I have looked at the link to the Maplins website kindly provided by GBS and seen the cable with a set of 3 plugs (red+yellow+white) on one end and a single jack plug on the other. The red/yellow/white plugs clearly fit into the TV. But as my S2XP has only a microphone jack socket, and a headphone jack socket, which of these (if any) would I plug the single jack plug on the onther end of the cable into and would that alone be sufficient to transmit both the audio and video signals?

Hope I don't appear too thick!

Well, I say website, the laptop was actually from Littlewoods (we chose them because of their payment scheme and nothing else!) and it was also on their website... www.littlewoods.co.uk - oddly enough they've replaced the "extra information" where it had the software package listings with info on choosing a pc, but it is still in the catalogue.

Basically it said on all the pc's was this software package blah blah blah and had a quick description of each piece of software included.

It doesn't matter that much really lol
