Dear All, I have a 2 year old VGNA517S which is not playing or recogonising DvDs, not even original movies which used to play normally on my system. It can play CDs, software installation discs and music Cds only if I click the CD icon and explore it in windiws explorer.
I have reinstalled my system still the problem persists. I uninstalled the driver for the drive and rebooted still the problem persists.
I am at a loss. PLease can anyone help?
Sam
Hi Sam,
It doesn't sound encouraging when the drive works for some media but not with DVDs.
All I can suggest is: -
1. Clean the laser lens with a liquid lens cleaner and polish with a microfibre cloth.
2. Check you have Nero or Roxio installed as XP does not natively support DVD authoring.
3. Open the drive and carefully slide the reading head from one end of its slider to the other. Made sure nothing obstructs this movement.
There are no firmware updates on Vaio-Link
You can check in Device Manager that there are no warnings displayed but I am sorry to say that a new drive may be needed.
