Movies on USB stops playing after 30min

Today I wanted to view few movies off my usb on the sony tv 55w805.
I know this problem never existed before as I waz able to watch videos perfectly fine without any issues. Since it last worked my tv has been updated to the latest firmware. The movies play fine on my pc and on the ps3.

Any advice for solutions?

Hi there

I know this may sound a pain - but can you please do a factory reset of the TV - it can cure issues and any 'gremlins' after a FW update?  Also, did these exact files play before the update?

If factory reset fails to cure the problem, can you please post back the detailed information in text format using a program called "Media Info", available HERE

PS, remove any information that may not be relevant (ie filename) :slight_smile:

Cheers

I dont have time at the moment to reset the tv and re apply the picture settings. I'm going to leave it now and use the ps3.

When i do decide to follow your instructions I'll let you know.

All I can say for now I'm not very happy with Sony. Based on this poor experience I will no longer update my tv if I am happy with what I have!

I fully understand how frustrating it is, especially when you were happy before and knew it was working to expectations.  Windows Updates annoy me the most - as quite often theres a knock-on effect somewhere else.

The W805A / W807A models are very popular models, and if there was a major issue with the FW, I would have expected to see a lot more complaints.  I have the W807A (same TV, silver frame), and dont have this problem.  This is why i suggested a factory reset.

But yes.  Fully understand your frustrations and annoyance

Update: Ive had time to reset the tv, after 10min it said there was update available so tv updated itself. I plugged in the usb and the same issue repeated itself. Not very happy with this :nerd:

Just out of interest, is it the same movies you are trying to play?

(Or have you tried different ones - also have you tried a different usb stick just in case?)

Hi there

To elaborate on Jumpsuits question above, is it all movies or is it just a few.  Also ensure that the files comply with the Supported Codecs list : HERE

To check the details/codecs of your video files, use a program called Media Info (free), from : HERE

To confirm, I have the following:

TV = KDL-42W807A
Firmware = PKG4.440EUA

I have successfully tested a video file on a 16GB Sony USB Drive formatted in NTFS.

So basically it comes down to the following:

  • Not a general issue with TVs and Firmware as a whole, individual issue
  • Try a different USB drive
  • Ensure video/audio codecs are supported (see above)

All else fails, contact Sony Support

Cheers
