Before I update..

Just a few questions, at least you can answer some of them, if not all Grinning_Face
If I update will i lose root?
If i do, can I towelroot, because its a new kernel?
What will happen to my Xposed modules if they are not disabled?
Can my phone be bricked because it's rooted?
That's all Slightly_smiling_Face

You don't need to unlock your bootloader to flash an ftf using Flashtools you would if you wanted to flash a custom rom but not a stock rom aka .ftf - So head over to XDA find a stock rom then follow this guide to manually flash your device - Ignore the title as it's the process you need to follow and simply use the firmware you download from XDA instead of the one on the guide and everything else is the same for all Xperia devices

You can't update via official means if you have root as modified software will be detected - You will have to unroot relock bootloader if it is unlocked then you will be able to update - If not then your only option is to update viaFlashtools using a .ftf firmware file and you will loose root unless you update using a modified odexed file via a recovery

Can a factory reset unroot my phone?

You could try but in my experience it won't work - Search XDA and see if there is a unroot tool but normally the only way to fully unroot is to manually flash a .ftf firmware file
