I bought this amp from richers sounds and I'm really happy with it but when turned on with no inputs actively being used the unit makes a very low electronic humming sound. I returned the first unit as I was unable to find a definitive answer as to whether it was faulty. I received the replacement today and its exactly the same. It cannot be heard when media is being played and it comes from the unit itself and not the speakers. I've tried emailing Sony but it seems I'm only able to submit a request nowadays instead of being able to properly email them describing the details. Any help appreciated. TIA
Hi @Mike-J-N, did you try and disconnect all the devices connected to the AMP and switch on by itself and check if the humming noise is still there or not.
If the humming noise, disappeared, this means it's caused by one of the connections you have connected to the AMP.
If that's the case, follow the instructions in page 34,35 and 36 here
You can contact Sony support directly from here as well if you want to. I hope this helps
Thanks for the reply. Yes I tried it on its own on a different power source aswell. This is the 2nd one with the exact same issue. After Googling the problem it seems quite a common issue. As a result I'm exchanging the unit and paying extra for a Marantz receiver.
Well, you've been a great Sony customer for a couple of weeks XD.
Enjoy your new system though, cheers.
Thanks. The Sony obviously has a poor build as both had exactly the same fault. My new Marantz doesn't.
