Compatibity of HDR-HC3 to newer cameras?

Good evening.

I had a HDR-HC3 that used MiniDV tapes, of which I have a lot of with recorded footage.

The camera we unfortunetely stolen.

If I buy a newer model (the HDR-HC3 is no longer available), will I be able to play the tapes from the HDR-HC3 and thus record the footage onto my computer?

To be honest it’s going to be a bit of a struggle to find a brand new MiniDV compatible Handycam as the majority of the current range is now either Memory Stick or internal memory based.

However, the format was very well supported for a long time and so it shouldn’t be that difficult to find another MiniDV HD camcorder to playback, transfer and archive the tapes you already have.  You might have to buy something second hand but that will only reduce the price while increasing your options.
