2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

Sony never admitted they accepted my return as a sog act return, but I think the key was finding a discrepancy in the advertising at the time I purchased it.  For me I think it was that they added the small foot note about Youview and sat/hdd not working together after I bought it.  What you need is the advertising material at the time you purchased it, to prove it was wrong.  Not easy.

This may help. This site can be used to view any website as it appeared in the past.

I got fed up with Sony and have asked my bank to get my money back. I can't even switch the blasted tv off. Have to unplug it. As for Kimberly she kept calling me while I was at work I'm sure it's on purpose. I told her I wanted a refund and she flatly refused saying the TVs are fine and to wait for an software update to fix. It's still faulty. Cannot believe they sold these with so many faults.

According to that archive website, on 1st May (a few weeks before I purchased my x83c) it does mention HDD recording via firmware update in summer 2015, but no mention of Youview not being available from launch or that Youview disables Sattelite and recording.  I did push the fact that the hidden footnote was not there when I bought, hence the TV did not match what was advertised at the time I purchased.

Correct these added footnotes were only added very recently

So if you bought from Sony before the footnotes were added (as I originally did) then you have a valid argument.  If you bought elsewhere then you'd probably need evidence that they misadvertised.

I am sure the notes were only added maybe around 4 weeks ago, unfortunately the archive site does not have any snap shots from closer dates.

I think it would be perfectly valid to argue that you bought the unit at a retail store based on the manufactures website claims

I have passed these archive sites onto CEO office as evidence of our claims

@royabrown absolutely spot on, I want to use HDD recording and Satellite channels independently of YouView. I do not expect one feature to disable 2 others.

I'm now convinced Sony Tv does not have the processing power to support all the features advertised. I'd liked to be proved wrong, but if not then we will never get these issues resolved.

Product is is Sony 2015 KDL 43W805C Android TV, UK Model with YouView, purchased Sept 2015.

@danielbeyzade

tried to pm you for template but does not seem to bre getting through.

Does your email to Sony CEO make any reference to ITV Player and More 4 not being available if Youview is disabled.
