xperia 1 iv over saturated black in low light

When using the phone in low light - watching videos that have dark areas, the black becomes over saturated and "bleeds" from the corners of the screen. At worst this creates a 'looking through keyhole' effect. I've tried toggling night mode and other obvious settings to no effect. Any help would be appreciated.

have you got the adaptive brightness turned on?

try also to check if it changes when you choose a different image quality setting
