Hum - sometimes these things fix themselves in Vista after a few reboots.

Check in Network Connections that your wireless LAN shows as "CONNECTED".

If not, click on it and try 'CONNECT'.

If no joy, go to Device Manager and check your wireless adapter is installed and working correctly.

It sounds like a hardware issue with the switch if the problem is intermittent. You were probably right all along.

Time to phone Sony Support? They will almost certainly ask you to carry out a System Recovery to eliminate any software causes.

i had the same problem also on my AR-21S, the wireless was working 10 minutes and then it went off. I noticed that after several restarts than the wireless turns off in Power Saving mode (although i check the options for Not power saving the wireless) and also in Vista Basic theme i got the same problem. So i tried the Vista Aero theme with the power options On High Performance and it works just fine. It may sound weird but with those options it works perfectly
