Can't remove T2 Ultra screen lock PIN

Hi everyone,

I love my T2-- except for this problem:

I added a PIN, temporarily I thought, and then have no way to remove it. Under security-- "clear credentials" is grayed out. Under the PIN area, I'm asked to enter it, but there's no where to undo it?

Is there any way to fix this short of a reset? It seems a bit drastic & this issue has been around for a ong time, as I Googled it for answers...why hasn't it been fixed?

To confirm you have not forgotten your PIN, you just want to remove it and change it to the 'Swipe' method?

Correct.

I had an appointment in a gov't building where I had to leave behind my mobile. Being the good little sceptic that I am, I first put a lock screen PIN. Afterwards, I went to remove it & couldn't.

Right now, I'm backing up the T2 (PC Companion) & want to upgrade it to whatever is the newest Android. I just wanted that stupid PIN gone before I do. I don't really like a PIN on my phone.

Lastly, anything I should know before updating? And what's the best way to do so?

@TracyF Before you repair, could you tell us why you can't remove it? There is no way for you to remember it or simply slide or none is not available?

I know my pin, I just want it off. In the settings, I have no option to remove it (as other directions have said). I go into the pin settings, it asks for my current pin (which I know works as it unlocks my screen) & it just loops there, over & over...

So, I looked up repair online, but since I'm behind in the OS anyway, I decided to backup & install the newest Android for this mobile (T2 Ultra Dual-SIM).

Just wondering, did you encrypted the phone? if you did that's the reason you can't remove the pin code.

No, I didn't encrypt the mobile.

This is a well-known issue on Sony mobiles, apparently. One person suggested that only a factory reset would fix it?

If I upgrade to the newest OS, will that stupid PIN still be required if I import the backup I made?

This is so aggravating! All I want is to NOT have to enter my frigging PIN & there's nothing I can do??

Anyone?

It only takes one...

I field computer issues on a daily basis. I've gotten to know how to discern what is likely to work vs. so convoluted, I know it's an elaborate guess- lol.

Your idea seemed good- but failed. No idea why it worked the 2nd time, but that's the nature of computers, yeah?

I'm now awaiting the upgrade of the OS & hoping that all goes through.

Slightly off-topic, but I now cannot write (or should say, some apps) to SD card? Upon Googling, I see this is a major issue. Without reading to the ends of the internet, is this still not addressed? Specifically, I'm self-employed & take calls on my T2 which I then use an app to store a "note", called CallerNotes. I also noticed Pixlr Express not able to save...? Error EACCESS, permission denied.

Thinking of going back to the old OS.

Yeah apps to SD are not that great, Google keeps trying to kill the SD card, so although Google has enabled apps to SD card, its quite limited.

Well, I made a complete backup of the phone before I upgraded- I'm assuming I can load that to get back to where I was? I hope?

Oh! And if some apps were stored on SD, is it still okay to remove it during back-up & restore? I don't trust the mobile to not ruin my SD data.

In the meantime, since that last note- more issues. I figured out a work-around for the SD bit- at least for the most part.

Next, I couldn't get connected to Google to add my account (kept saying I had updates but then wouldn't connect?).

Then realized my hotspot tethering was offline! Fixed that & finally (been all over the net looking for crumbs) managed to get to the point where I was offered, through Play, to login. At that point, my phone says Google play services needs to update, but then errors out with: can't get a server...

This is, honestly, the most grief I've had in a very long time! And that's saying something because I do Windows repairs & service for a lot of elderly folks. I've spent half a day & it's still not quite right. **bleep** happened to Android?? I've totally lost confidence in their OS. And SD cards are one of the things that puts them ahead of Apple-- they'd be very silly to remove it. Imho

Android can't create backups like iOS devices, at least not now.

If you have apps on the SD card and you unmount it you will have to re-download the app again.

Settings > apps > all > play store > clear data

Hi Steve,

I created the backup with Sony's PC Companion. I sent it to my PC so I'd have that to rollback to if need be.

As far as "clear data", I think I must've done that a hundred times last night (early a.m.) to fix Google Play (Services) & restore everything to a working condition! I just hope I've gotten it all stable. I guess I'll have to open & use each app to verify-- then, I'll make a new, second image with SPCC.

I have the same proplem and I remember the pattren put I could not change it to swipe
I need help plz...
If any one have any information how could to change it tell me plz..
