What format is the external storage in (ie: FAT32 or NTFS)? As far as the storage space goes, this can happen as applications start to cache data. You can clear the cache of applications by doing this:

Main menu > Settings > Applications > Tap on the individual applications > Clear Cache.

What are your thoughts about this forum? Let us know by doing this short survey.
