i updated my Android is and upon boot my phone requested for a Sim pin, it turns out that the phone got locked. How do I unlock it

I've only seen this happened when users manually update the phone with a network branded ftf file; is that what you did?

Just to clarify, is it asking for your 4 digit SIM PIN code, or is it asking for a 16 digit network unlocking code? If it is asking for your normal SIM PIN code and you don't have it, get in touch with your operator and they'll assist you further.

If the device is locked to a network after updating it, how did you update the device? Was it done in the device or when using Xperia Companion? As @uliwooly mentioned, the only way it should be locked as far as I know, is if you flash a firmware that has a network lock by default.

Let us know a bit more about the lock and how you updated the device.
