I have a Sony 65AF8 Android TV.

Recently I did a factory reset.

Since then, I've had a struggle with internet access.

I can choose to wire or use wifi to connect - the problem is the same no matter which method I use.

After a hard reset, all works well no problem.

However, if I put the TV in to standby, and then switch it back on, internet access is limited.

By limited I mean, the guide works, speed tests work, netflix works.

But, BBCiplayer and other players wont work, and the automatic software update stops working.

I am not on the latest firmware, but I can't get it updated due to this issue. The TV reports it is on the latest firmware, but its not. I cant leave it to automatically download any updates as it stops working after standby. I cant get to the USB ports to do a manual update (the TV is built in).

I have tried everything and the only thing that works is after standby, I have to do a hard reset (holding power off button) to get internet access back working fully.

Its so frustrating. Any suggestions?

Hi,

There should be a new firmware soon that will be installed over the air.

This will also be a newer version as the current download version and will fix the issue with TV not starting from standby.

Cheers

Look forward to it.

I've tried today a full factory reset.

Haven't changed any settings at all. Internet all working fine.

Put TV into standby.

Restarted TV and, no internent access for iplayer etc.

OK - now upgraded to the latest firmware.

Bear in mind this is also a factory reset television...

and STILL losing full internet functionality every time it goes into standby.

I have outstanding issues with Sony on the HDMI3 ARC hdmi as well.

This television which cost me a LOT of money is turning into a horror show of glitches.

Hi we have been experiencing the same problem for about 6 weeks. IPlayer says oops something went wrong check your internet!!! We have FULL FIBRE BROADBAND so no issues there everything else works fine. TOTALLY FED UP. We have to switch the TV off at the plug, restart & then BBC I player will work.

Now we have a new problem, tried to watch ALL 4 this week & guess what we are told we have to tune in to YOUVIEW. We have FREESAT & no aerial so how is that possible. We have been watching ALL 4 every week until this week!! What is going on SONY?????

very disgruntled customers.

we may as well have bought a cheap TV.

yup thats exactly the symptoms I have too.

gigabit synchronous fibre and the TV throws a wobbly with certain apps including iplayer and the actual software update function (error 1002 reported), every time you switch it on from standby.

If it helps at all, I dont need to switch mine off at the wall to reset it, simply hold in the power off button for a few seconds and rather than go into standby, the TV restarts (takes a few seconds but it does switch itself back on).

I'm actually glad to hear someone else has the problem, I thought I was going crazy.

I should add... the wired network adaptor on an almost 3 grand television is also 100meg...

So its actually slower than modern wireless. Who in Sony decided to save a few cents by not having a gigabit wired adaptor?

Hi thanks for the info we will try turning off from the buttons & see if it kickstarts BBC I player again.

We have been watching ALL4 fine since we moved address a year ago, so I don't know why its stopped working this week unless its because I have been trying messing with settings to get BBC I Player to work. We did have an aerial at our previous address but we had the chimney removed at our new house so dispensed with the aerial as it was old & rubbish anyway. We inherited a satellite dish so we bought freesat box. Didn't realise you need an aerial to load You View.

OK - so I seem to have resolved this (at least for the last two days the TV has been fine).

I manually amended the DNS on my TV's internet connection to the google server addresses 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

The TV has been on and off and the BBC iplayer is still working.

As noted, this has been fine for a day or two so I'm reasonably sure that has been the solution for me.
