Congratulations to J.Nieves and his winning picture in our landscaping competition.

With its melancholy mood, the photo really draws in the viewer directly into the scene and the fact that the photographer has left out color reduces the overall impression solely on the nuanced shades of gray and the finely differentiated contrasts. The rails of the slip system as the dominant part of the image draw the eye formally into the water and out to sea into the uncertainty. Inevitably the question arises about the whereabouts of boats that have found their safe home port. In the center of the image, like a memorial, a dark threatening rock stands out of the water.
The water seems blurry and not really tangible. It seems as if it is not a simple long exposure, but a double exposure in which multiple images are superimposed and give this diffused but not blurred impression of the sea surface.
